Safeguarding Children and Young People

Safeguarding Children and Young People is a concept that reaches beyond child protection, incorporating the additional aims of:

  • Preventing the harm if a child or young person's health,

  • Preventing the harm of a child or young person's development, and

  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

The well being of a Child or Young Person is at the heart of the Care and Support System.  UK Legislation exists to ensure that this is a legal requirement for local authorities and other organisations that offer care to children and young people.
