Tackling Food Poverty
Wales Garden Project
This garden project was launched due to the number of difficulties residents were facing such as food poverty, and direct access to a safe outdoor environment which they could access at any time. Together with staff, residents and service users, local suppliers and contractors, we worked hard to create a beautiful outdoor space.
The garden was filled with large growing beds, seating facilities, including an undercover facility, and a green house. The hard work paid off, as once the garden project was up and running, everyone participated in planting flowers, fruit and vegetables. It wasn’t long before residents were able to pick a range of healthy home grown produce that they had grown themselves.
The Garden Project was officially opened on the 9 August 2022. Staff, residents, services users, Deputy Mayoress and a Member of Parliament all came along to celebrate the opening of the project.

The Operational Manger said ”I was so pleased when Adullam Social Enterprise told me that they would fund our new garden facility, to enable our residents to grow fruit and vegetables. It was amazing to see the staff and residents working together to get the site up and running, and to be able to walk around in the garden picking fresh strawberries and tomatoes and eating them. Without the donation we would not have such a lovely garden where we can now teach people to grow their own food”.
